Obituary

FARMINGDALE ? Violet 'Vi' M. Johnson, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. Violet was born in Hallowell on July 26, 1914, the daughter of Ralph Morgan and Martha Etta (Pinkham) Morgan. She graduated from Hallowell High School and worked for J.P. Clearwater until she became a devoted wife and mother. She later went to work for the State of Maine, retiring from the Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Game, Bureau of Watercraft, in 1981. She spent most of her life in Hallowell, lived 14 years in Manchester, and for the past year she lived at Kennebec Village in Farmingdale. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, nurture her plants and also enjoyed walking. She had attended First Baptist Church of West Gardiner and in recent years, Hope Baptist Church in Manchester. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Helen Coan and Louise Richmond of Hallowell; three brothers, Clyde J. Morgan of Hallowell, Edward M. Morgan of Benton and Victor R. Morgan of Hallowell. Surviving are sisters-in-law Louise Perkins and Thelma Morgan of Hallowell and Marion Morgan of Benton. She is also survived by her daughters, Lynn Verrill and her husband, Michael, of Manchester and Ann Libby and her husband, Vernon, of Farmingdale; her grandchildren, Michelle Verrill and her boyfriend Sigmund Martis, Morgan Verrill, Brenda Rolfe and her husband Michael, Bruce Libby and his wife Heidi and John Libby and his wife Dianna; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; also, many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 28, at Cherry Hill Cemetery, High St., West Gardiner. Memorial donations may be directed to Muscular Dystrophy Assoc., 222 Auburn St., Suite 102, Portland 04103, or to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, c/o Central Maine Medical Center, 300 Main St., Lewiston 04240. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 68 Second St., Hallowell.
