FARMINGDALE ? Virginia L. Anderson, 92, passed away Friday, July 11, 2003, at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center in Winthrop. She previously was a longtime resident of Hayford Heights, Farmingdale. She was born on Swans Island on March 2, 1911, the daughter of Master Mariner Capt. James F. Childs and Lura (Parker) Childs. A 1929 graduate of Stonington High School, Mrs. Anderson attended Rockland Business School. She married Fred J. Anderson on Aug. 21, 1932, in Rockland. She was employed by Central Maine Power Co. for 29 years as secretary in distribution engineering. Prior to that, she was employed by the Selective Service headquarters in Augusta. She was especially proud of credit hours earned at Colby College in Waterville. With her husband she traveled extensively throughout the United States and foreign countries, including Finland and England, where their families originated. She also enjoyed the annual reunion of Stonington High School classmates and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry, who died in infancy; and her husband, Fred J. Anderson, who died May 15, 1994. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frederick E. Anderson and Janice M. Anderson of Winthrop; and two grandsons, Stephen K. Anderson of Lake Waccamaw, N.C., and Jeffrey S. Anderson and his wife, Beth, of Fletcher, N.C. There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be in the family lot at Farmingdale Cemetery, Maine Avenue, Farmingdale. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be sent to the Heritage Residential Fund, 457 Old Lewiston Road, Winthrop 04364. Arrangements are under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop 04364.
