Obituary

AUGUSTA ? Wallace Austin Frost, 94, of Augusta died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Augusta, Jan. 18, 1908, the son of Melvin F. and Jennie B. (Esterbrook) Frost. Wallace was employed by the Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Co. for 42 years. He was a member of the Penney Memorial United Baptist Church for 66 years, where he served on the board of Deacons for 11 years, ushered for more than 50 years, and sang in the church choir for three years. He was a Master Mason of the Bethlehem Lodge of Augusta, and May 2001 marked his 73rd year as a member. He was a four-year member of the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Wallace loved to go fishing, hunting and hiking with his lifelong friend, Pete Hill, and climbed most of the highest mountains in Maine, such as Bigelow Mountain, Mount Blue, and Mount Katadin. He also loved to go camping, and enjoyed his daily walks and listening to his talking books. Wallace was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Vivian (Tuttle) Frost; his brother, Clarence Frost, and his parents. He is survived by his first cousin, Marjorie Nason and her husband, Jim, of Richmond; second cousin, Don Powers and his wife, Pat, of South Portland; dear friends, Tom, Lynn and Ty Brown, who cared for him and his wife, Vivian; and all of his friends at Penney Memorial. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Mr. Frost will be interred next to his wife, Vivian, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Augusta.
