HALLOWELL - William Malkson Havey, 75, died on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at his home in the loving presence of his family. He was born in Ellsworth on Aug. 14, 1933, the son of Barney Morton and Marjorie (Malkson) Havey. He attended schools in Bangor, Waterville and Augusta. He served in the Naval Seabee Reserve Program and, upon graduating from Cony High School in 1953, enlisted full time. He married Patricia Ann Wheelock on June 19, 1955, and after receiving an honorable discharge was accepted at the Maine State Police academy. While serving as a trooper, he was assigned to then-Gov. Edmund S. Muskie's personal detail at the Blaine House. In 1961, he and his wife moved to Hallowell, where they raised their four children. He later worked for Associated Industries of Maine and the Maine State Library, retiring in 1985. His greatest joys were music, art, the ocean and his grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as 'Gar.' Bill and Patty would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in June. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Wheelock) Havey; two daughters, Kathleen Webster and her partner, Barney Dubsky, of Readfield, and Karen Blake and her partner, Linwood Diket, of Whitefield; two sons, William M. II and his partner, Lasca Whittier, of Readfield, and Todd M. and his wife, Sheila, of Topsham; three granddaughters, Shannon Johnson and her husband, Cory, of West Gardiner, Jessie Blake, of Hallowell, and Erin Havey, of Topsham; three grandsons, Daniel Blake and his partner, Nadia Marcoux, of Hallowell, Eric Wesbster, of Tacoma, Wash., and Ryan Havey, of Topsham; two great-granddaughters, Madison and Isabella Johnson, of West Gardiner; a great-grandson, Jackson Blake, of Hallowell; and three nieces, Linda Havey, of Portland, Jan Burns and her husband, Bruce, of Winthrop, and Susan Havey, of Manchester. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Beryl-Ann Havey, of Lincolnville, Geraldine Havey, of Manchester, and Sandra Crockett and her husband, Steve, of Winthrop; three brothers-law, David Wheelock and his wife, Eva, Robert 'Whipper' Wheelock and his wife, Rita, all of Augusta, and Vance Wheelock and his wife, Roberta, of Winthropl and many additional Wheelock nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two special aunts, Rita Hammond, of Somers, Conn., and Hellen Larrabee, of Augusta; and longtime family friend Regina Diplock and her husband, Robert, of Readfield. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Jack M.; a nephew, John M. Havey; and great-granddaughter Sophia Johnson. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 209 Eastern Ave., Augusta, with a reception to follow.
