In Loving Memory of William G. Hicks

William G. Hicks, 75, passed away in Maine on September 21, 2026. Born on February 18, 1951, in Staten Island, New York, William—also known as Bill or Billy—was a man whose kindness, humor, and gentle strength left an enduring impression on all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his loving wife and dearest friend, Elizabeth Hicks, with whom he shared a remarkable journey. “Bill and Liz” began as friends in 1994, forming a connection that blossomed into a loving marriage of 22 years—a partnership defined by laughter, unwavering support, and quiet devotion.

He is fondly remembered by his stepdaughters, Andrea Delmar and Stephanie Delmar, who will forever carry his wisdom, warmth, and encouragement in their hearts. Bill leaves behind his cherished sister, Mary Ellen Molokie, and brother-in-law Tom Molokie, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Edward Hicks, his brother Edward Hicks (Alice McGowan), his sisters Elizabeth Hicks and Kathy Melnick (Richie Melnick), all of whom he loved deeply.

At 16, Bill learned the fundamentals of engineering from his father. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School and went on to serve proudly in the Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge. Bill attended Manhattan College and later worked as a surveyor throughout the boroughs of New York City. His notable work sites included the Twin Towers, Battery Park City, and Grand Central Station—projects he carried great pride in.

Bill’s favorite pastimes often led him to his garage, where his appreciation for craftsmanship came to life. He created unique furniture pieces, wheelbarrows, and Adirondack chairs, generously gifting them to family and friends. Each item was crafted with patience, skill, and a deep love for woodworking.

He also possessed a natural green thumb and profound respect for nature. Bill nurtured trees from tiny seedlings into venerable, thriving giants. His passion for gardening included his own closely guarded “dirt recipes,” which became the secret behind the exceptional vitality of everything he planted.

Recognized as the heart and soul of his life was the Maine cabin he built and faithfully tended since 1974. The cabin and surrounding land reflected Bill’s spirit.

William will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. In his honor, a Celebration of Life will take place at Bill’s beloved cabin next year. Details from the family will follow.
