Obituary

HALLOWELL-William H. Bradley, Jr., 84, of Vaughan Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 in Augusta. He was born in Augusta, August 16, 1917, the son of William H. and Alice (Whitten) Bradley. He graduated from Cony High School in 1935. He married Ruth McPherson on September 16, 1949, in Augusta. He retired from the State of Maine Department of Transportation in 1982. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, George (Bo) Bradley; brothers-in-law, Harry W. McPherson, of Hallowell, and Fred Jacobs, of Mount Vernon. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth; brothers-in-law and their wives, John and Patricia McPherson, and Ernest and Joan McPherson, of Hallowell; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Mary and James Cunnion, Eleanor and Robert Trask, Alice and Eric Perry, Linda McPherson and Cynthia McPherson, all of Hallowell, and Marjorie Jacobs, of Mt. Vernon. He was predeceased by a daughter from a previous marriage, Diane Poulin, and is survived by a daughter, Carol Champagne. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Captain in the 1st Calvary Division, U.S. Army, and saw action in New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, Southern Philippines, and Luzon, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Maine State Retirees Association and the American Legion, Goodrich-Caldwell Post #6, Hallowell. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, from 1-2 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 68 Second St., Hallowell, with a funeral service immediately following the visitation. The Rev. Gary Hubley, pastor of Old South Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Hallowell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec County, 150 Dresden Ave., Gardiner 04345 or the charity of one?s choice.
